Serenity of Nissen bight
Serenity of Nissen bightI love to sit and watch the ebbing fog engulfing the trees briefly before releasing them to the wind again and again. The pieces of drift wood scattered along the beach sculpted by time and ocean change the tides flow shaping the sand around it. This is a place of peace where time is lost on a simple stroll and one can camp without seeing another soul. This is Nissen bight.
The Sorceress of Formentera
The Sorceress of FormenteraWith the Sun blanketed by clouds the atmosphere on Playa de Ses Illetes was bewitched by the low orange glow and strong winds. Perhaps it also had something to do with Es Vedra looming in the distance, more on that later. This is not a HDR but has some what the look attributed to the beach's stunning contrast.
Crown Jewl
Crown JewlIt turns out in Winter the Sun is perfectly aligned with Es Vedrà's peaks. One of the most breath taking natural formations I have ever seen toped by our star. Some people claim to have seen UFO's here and belive there is a secret base located under the island. One such event took place in 1979 when a commercial flight pilot reported a strange rapid moving light accosting his aircraft close to the island. The flight was redirected to Valencia for an emergency landing.
La Aldea del Mar
La Aldea del MarS'Estaca, Mallorca. A beautiful village perched on the cliffs, lashed by the wind and sea.
Bossa Supernova
Bossa SupernovaThe first from a set of images I made on platja d'en Bossa on a cloudy Winter morning.
Cliff Creeper
Cliff CreeperFollowing the cliff line out from Portinatx on the North most tip of Ibiza we were excited to see faro des Moscarter (Moscarter lighthouse) for the first time. But what really grabbed my attention was the sound and sight of the Mediterranean crashing with the cliffs that support our trail ahead.
Yarrie Lake Twilight
Yarrie Lake TwilightAfter shooting sunset at the Telescope array (previous photograph) I quickly got back in my wagon and hauled back for my lake sunset shoot location. Many Kangaroos and birds were around and active due to the time of day, the wagon made it back undamaged with just plain luck (only one close call). The sky was turning a brilliant blue as twilight engulfed the last Sun light. The lake was perfectly still allowing me to shoot this panorama. See the next image for Sunrise at the lake.

Lonely Soul
Lonely Soul4:30am at Island View Beach Regional Park camp. I stand on the beach alone, nothing but the water and sea birds. My camera is set on the tripod with focus and exposure set for a long exposure. The clouds above Washington state set alight and I begin the four minute capture. Mount Baker can be seen on the right.
Posidonia
PosidoniaMarta and I cycled and hiked for an hour to reach the north most tip of Formentera unsure if the dark clouds would loosen their gripped on the setting Sun. They didn't let up much but I love the moody atmosphere we received complimented by being the only souls on this part of the island. In the distance you can see Ibiza and Es Vedrà fading away with the day.
Son Veri
Son VeriFor two days Mallorca experienced some incredible storm weather, bashing the coast line with wind and water. This made me very photographically anxious when the cloud conditions cleaned up at Sunset time. The water was fanning up to the sky when it clashed with rock as I franticly tried my best to match up my compositions with good timing.
La Magia de Es Vedrà
La Magia de Es VedràHere is the first of many shots of Es Vedrà a beautiful and curious island off the coast of Ibiza. I'll start with the hard facts. The peak of the island stands 413m above the sea and sits 2.4km off the coast of Cala d'Hort. It's part of the Cala d’Hort nature reserve and is uninhabited. For those into 90's music you may recognize this beauty from the cover of Mike Oldfield's Voyager album ;). More info and myths about the island with the next image. This is a 15 second exposure shot from the cliff edge before heading up to Torre d'es Savinar for sunset.

Camí de Cala Figuera
Camí de Cala FigueraThe diversity of the landscapes in Mallorca never ceases to amaze me. The short walk down to Cala Figuera (a small rocky beach near Cap de Formentor) has incredible views with boulders and huge cliffs on the right and a bay of magical crystal blue water on the left.
Cala Figuera Bouldering
Cala Figuera BoulderingOne of the many Sea side bouldering areas near Santanyi in Mallorca. There is something for everyone with mainly jugs, pockets and crimps on sharp rock.

Drifter
DrifterExploring around Island View Beach at Sunset I was packing up defeated by my bad position for capturing the landscape when this little bird landed on a piece of drift wood stuck tall in the sand. Lucky for me he the patience for me to change lenses before taking off. Another photography lesson learnt!
Es Pontàs
Es PontàsWalking to the edge of the sea cliff I was filled with excitement to set up and photograph this stunning arch. Home to a spectacular deep water soloing (rock climbing over water with no gear) Es Pontàs is found at the south eastern part of the island, Mallorca. This image is exposed at a little over a minute using a Lee Big Stopper.
Take it all in
Take it all inSetting up my tripod and readying my filters on the cliff edge in front of Torre des Verger, I searched rapidly for a composition that took it all in. The expanse of the Sea, the beautiful contours of the coast line and the olive trees stepping down to the waters edge. This image is a 20 second exposure giving the trees and Sea the blurry effect. Mallorca, Spain.
The Possibilities
The PossibilitiesExploring this little village by the sea I had to find a shot of this rock being batter by the sea. After scrambling to a few view points this one captured everything that I wished for. S'Estaca, Mallorca.
El mar suave
El mar suaveAnother shot from the Sunrise at platja d'en Bossa. The long exposure really brings out the orange and blue reflections in the wind chopped sea. More coming soon!
Cala d'Aubarca
Cala d'AubarcaAnother beauty day of hiking on Ibiza, thanks Jordi a local from the island for taking us on the less trodden path down to the waters edge making a large loop exploring the coast line. After we completed the hike we headed up to this look out to take in the area.
Casetas varadero
Casetas varaderoAnother stormy morning in Ibiza didn't stop us from trudging up the beach at sunrise to Punta de Sa Torre de Ses Portes. Sunrise time came and went without any sign of the Sun so we explored these fisherman houses located right on the point. After some time a moment of magic happened as the Sun cleared the clouds and gave us a brief light show before beginning the day. This image is a HDR but I like to use the technique to balance the image not to make it sparkle.
Werri Beach
Werri BeachStrong morning sun through the surf spray on Werri Beach, NSW.
The edge of Minnamurra
The edge of MinnamurraI waited on the edge of Minnamurra point, cold ocean wind brushing my face, watching and waiting for the Sun to rise and bath the cliffs in an orange glow. The Sun came greeting Stack island and the days swell, I feel like im on another world covered in jaggered rock and rough water, if only. 30 second exposure to take the oceans fury down a notch.

Change is comingPlaya de illetas was voted the most beautiful beach in Europe but on this day she showed her ugly side!
The Dragon of Mallorca
The Dragon of MallorcaSa Dragonera, a 3.6km island just off the coast of Sant Elm is the staple of all the vistas climbing up to la Trapa on Mallorca's west coast. This image is a 15 second exposure on the edge of a rocky cliff requiring some solid foot work and tricky tripod placement. Worth it though!
Fire Blanket
Fire BlanketI went out scouting for a sunrise location yesterday afternoon not expecting to recieve any sort of sunset, lucky I took my camera along! This powerful sunset spread out 180 degrees covering Blanket Bay, Vic.
Aussie flip flop running
Aussie flip flop runningMany times in the years I've been shooting landscapes I have consistently regretted not being on location at first light time vs sunrise time mainly due to that pesky snooze button. This morning at Blanket Bay was no different. Waking up two minutes before first light I peak out the van window to see the horizon smouldering. I hauled ass getting dressed, no time to put on shoes, time for some classic Aussie flip flop running. I pulled my tripod open while running down the beach looking for a foreground. Here is the resulting image, I feel like I got lucky again. Great way to start the day!
Wreck beach
Wreck beachOf the 700 ships wrecked on Victorias coast line in the 19th centuary serveral met their end on the Otway coast. Two relics of this past still remain on Wreck beach today. These anchors are from the Marie Gabrielle in 1880 and the Fiji in 1891 and can be viewed with a short hike at low tide.
